Carpet and pad that absorbed sewage are porous and generally not treated like a clean-water loss. Material condition, duration, and the contamination source determine the scope, but removal is commonly the responsible path.
The utility, plumber, drain specialist, or property manager may own source control depending on whether the blockage is in a public main, private lateral, fixture, or shared building system. The restoration team handles the affected interior after the source is controlled.
Drying alone does not remove contamination or residue. Source control, contaminated-material decisions, detailed cleaning, and structural drying all matter. Persistent odor is a reason to recheck the source and affected materials.
